Four Teams to Participate in Prospect Showcase in Tampa Bay Next Month

Corey Pronman of The Athletic announced that the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Nashville Predators, and Tampa Bay Lightning will participate in a prospect showcase in Tampa Bay next month. The tournament is expected to be from September 17th-September 19th

The Hurricanes’ talent in their pool is probably the best at the tournament. At forward, they have the likes of Seth Jarvis, Noel Gunler, Ville Koivunen, Alexander Pashin, Zion Nybeck, Vasili Ponomaryov, Patrik Puistola, Yegor Korshkov, Justin Robidas, and Ryan Suzuki. At the blue-line, they have Anttoni Honka, Scott Morrow, Aleksi Heimosalmi, and Aidan Hreschuk. In net, they have Pyotr Kochetkov, Jack LaFontaine, and Nikita Quapp. Depending on who attends the tournament from this bunch, the Hurricanes have a good chance at performing well.

The Panthers’ pool isn’t as good as the Hurricanes, but they have the best prospect in the tournament, and maybe the entire NHL, in Anton Lundell. Along with him, the likes of Mackie Samoskevich, Logan Hutsko, Evan Nause, Serron Noel, Vladislav Lukashevich, and Michael Benning will likely play. It is unknown if Spencer Knight or Grigori Denisenko will participate or if they are available to.

The Predators have a very underrated pool. One of the best goaltending prospects in the NHL in Yaroslav Askarov, and Connor Ingram backing him up. Phillip Tomasino, Yegor Afanasyev, Fyodor Svechkov, Zachary L’Heureux and Luke Evangelista highlight a stacked forward core, and David Farrance, Ryan Ufko and Anton Olsson support a decent blue-line. This team should put up a good fight.

The host team, the Lightning likely have the weakest team in this tournament. Their top prospect is Dylan Duke, and his supporting cast includes Gage Goncalves, Jack Finley, Maxim Cajkovic, Maxim Groshev, Cole Koepke and Samuel Walker. The defense has some hidden gems in Eamon Powell and Roman Schmidt, and they have a very good goaltender in Hugo Alnefelt, but overall this team isn’t the greatest.

This tournament should be fun to both watch and cover and correlates with our previous summer league idea.
