Windsor Spitfires Hire Ex-NHL Superstar Marc Savard As Head Coach

The Windsor Spitfires have hired ex-NHL superstar Marc Savard as head coach for the 2021-22 season. This will be the Ottawa native’s first head coaching gig of his career. He was also an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues during the 2019-20 season.

Savard, 44, played 807 games in the NHL split between the New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, Atlanta Thrashers, and Boston Bruins, and won a Stanley Cup in his final season in 2010-11 prior to concussions forcing him into very early retirement.

Savard replaces Trevor Letowski, who is now an assistant coach for the Montreal Canadiens as the coach in Windsor. He is one of the founders of Project 91, which is dedicated to raising concussion awareness and to provide funding to support concussion research.
