T.J. Millar and Marian Agyei-Gyamera joining Maple Leafs’ New development program

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced this afternoon that T.J. Millar and Marian Agyei-Gyamera will be joining their coaching and management development program.

Millar, 27, is coming off of three seasons as an assistant coach with the Bonnyville Pontiacs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Agyei-Gyamera is the event and programs manager for Ringette Ontario, as well as the Black Female Coach Mentorship Program. She is also the founder of “Millennials Achieving Greatness”, or MAGS, which empowers small business owners and entrepreneurs through sharing their stories.

The purpose of the Maple Leafs’ new coaching and management development program is to advance equity, inclusion, and diversity within the sport of hockey. ” We believe in inclusion and hope to influence change that addresses systemic issues in the sport of hockey as well as within the communities we represent.” The Maple Leafs will provide mentorship opportunities and professional hockey experience to its two candidates. They will also be paid a full salary as part of this opportunity.

Through this program, the Maple Leafs hope to eliminate barriers surrounding the hockey community. Brendan Shanahan and Kyle Dubas have both expressed their excitement in starting this program.

“I commend Kyle Dubas for taking charge of this initiative. It’s one that I know our organization as a whole stands behind” said Shanahan in May during the launch of the program.
