CapFriendly announced Wednesday that the Colorado Avalanche have signed 33-year-old centreman Artem Anisimov to a PTO.
Like Jack Johnson (also on a PTO with the Avs), Anisimov has been a subject of criticism over the last few seasons. Anisimov played the last two seasons in Ottawa where he compiled 17 goals and 12 assists over 68 games. Some might not think this is too bad, but his underlying numbers speak differently. Anisimov has ranked in the bottom-30 of all NHLers over the past three seasons in GAR, and bottom-40 in xDEF. With that being said, Anisimov can still be a viable NHL option with a smaller role.
Should Anisimov be granted an NHL contract after training camp, he will serve in the bottom-six, likely in a secondary scoring role.
