The Florida Panthers signed goaltender Mack Guzda to a three-year, entry-level contract earlier today, adding onto their impressive organizational depth in between the pipes.
“Guzda has been a standout goaltender in the Ontario Hockey League this season,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said. “We are excited about his growth and are thrilled that he will continue his development in our organization.”
Guzda, 21, is 16-8-2 with a .920 save percentage in the OHL this season. He’s played with the Barrie Colts and Owen Sound Attack, and has won the last two straight Goaltender of the Month awards.
Along with the Panthers, it’s believed that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders, and Carolina Hurricanes had interest.
Guzda is likely fourth on the Panthers’ depth charts for now, behind Sergei Bobrovsky, Spencer Knight, and Christopher Gibson.
